US rapper sues Canada for $900M
p2pnet.net News:- “I have traveled in and out of Canada 120 times since 1999-and was stopped for secondary inspections 117 times. I have actually been patted down twice and had Windsor police called with guns drawn over a CD from my company and profiling … I have business dealings and contracts with 2 dozen Canadian companies including Healy Disc in Ottawa, FLOW FM Toronto, and a large proposed deal with Much Music. I have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars with Canadian businesses.”
The words are Jerome Almon’s, owner of rap label Murdercap Records, based in Detroit, just across from Windsor, Ontario, and they’re quoted on InjusticeBusters.
He’s launched a $900 million lawsuit against Canadian border officials claiming he was racially harassed during attempts to enter Canada, says the Detroit News.
On InjusticeBusters, Almon says he’s asked the State Department and the Congressional Black Caucus to, “issue a travel information bulletin to African Americans entering Canada”.
“In 2003, Canada banned his entry indefinitely, despite the fact Almon has no criminal record and has repeatedly provided border officials with clearances from the Michigan State Police that say he has no criminal record and the company is also registered in Canada,” says The Detroit News, “and he crosses the border for business and personal reasons, he said.
Almon’s lawsuit was launched in Michigan, but he cites the Canadian Charter of Rights, “which would not apply there,” says the CBC. “He also says international law protects his right to conduct business.
“Almon’s songs include On Ya Neez Bitch and How Stella Got My Backhand.”
Says Almon on InjusticeBusters, “I am on the famous Red List which was begun in 1950 with the passing of the McCarren Act. The Act was repealed during the 70s but they didn’t get rid of the list.
“It is just that despite the attempts of the U.S. government to place restrictions on our right to travel, do business with one another and learn first hand about the world that we are now able to communicate so quickly with one another through the internet.”
