Lucky and Flo, back again
p2pnet.net news:- Lucky and Flo, Hollywood’s anti-pirate sniffer dogs, are in action. For the first time. Again.
“The two black Labradors are on loan for a month from the Motion Picture Association of America” whose members include, “top Hollywood studios Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox and Universal,” says Associated Press.
“Organized criminal networks involved in film piracy are also often implicated in other serious crimes such as human smuggling, exploitation of children, possession of firearms and benefit fraud,” said entertainment industry organization FACT earnestly when it introduced the dogs back in May last year.
Now, “It is the first time dogs have been used by authorities anywhere around the world to detect contraband discs,” AP has Mike Ellis, regional director for Hollywood spin outfit the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) stating unequivocally.
First time, eh?
“This is the first time dogs have been used anywhere in the world to search for counterfeit DVDs,” said FACT’s Raymond Leinster in May, 2006.
And Lucky and Flo were, “trotted out in Dubai and Malaysia, generating instant press attention which is, of course, their primary function,” p2pnet posted last December.
Anyway, one of the questions often asked is: How do F&L tell the difference between a counterfeit disc and a real one?
Now it can be revealed. “It took around nine months and $17,000 to train the dogs to detect polycarbonates, chemicals used in the disc manufacturing process,” according to Ellis.
Oh. OK. But how does that help them to tell the difference between a counterfeit disc and a real one?
Well, actually, they can’t tell the difference, says the story. But they can detect if DVDs are stashed in shipments “signed off as a consignment of something else”.
Oh. OK.
Don’t bother to stay tuned.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. The dogs are probably spin dizzy from all the hoopala around them.
Either that or they are having problems with equilibrium after trying to learn to read so they can tell the difference between official labels and the counterfeit ones.

I just had to say that whoever wrote this article is quite obviously a moron. Anyway, those dogs are really cool, and they’re obviously more intelligent than the bozos who post unintelligible, contradictory articles like this on the web. Rock on, L&F. Pay no attention to the sarcastic dweeb trying to defame you and belittle your efforts. I read in an INFORMATIVE article that these dogs have nabbed $3.3 million worth of illegal discs which includes kiddie porno and other trash. You know, the stuff that the author of this article jerks off to. Peace out, dog lovers.
