Starbucks hires Paul McCartney

p2pnet.net news:- Paul McCartney hasn’t exactly distinguished himself since the Fab Four went their separate ways. Nonetheless, Starbucks has hired him to front for them in the launch of the company’s new record label.

“The ex-Beatle appeared via a video feed from London at the company’s annual meeting,” says Associated Press.

His fee isn’t mentioned.

“The world’s largest specialty coffee retailer announced earlier this month that it was partnering with Concord Music Group to launch the Hear Music label.”

Starbucks Coffee Company introduced Starbucks Entertainment in 2004 having bought Hear Music in 1999, and last year said its catalogue would be sold on Apple’s iTunes.

“Wednesday’s announcement is another step in Starbucks’ attempts to spin part of its consumer appeal into the entertainment business,” says AP. “The chain already has marketed albums and books, and it helped develop a movie.”

Starbucks chief Howard Schultz said McCartney would be the first artist for the new record label, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, adding that Schultz, “a billionaire who once rubbed shoulders with NBA stars when he was principal owner of the Seattle Sonics, appeared awestruck after chatting with McCartney, who appeared via satellite from London”.

Yawn.

Slashdot Slashdot it!

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

Paul McCartney ‘hasn’t exactly distinguished himself since the Fab Four went their separate ways’???
Even the most hardened Macca detractors would find that statement pretty ludicrous, bub.
Nine U.S. Number One singles; biggest selling UK (non-charity) single (1977); listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most successful composer of all time (1979); involved in more UK number ones than any artist as solo artist, duo, trio, quartet, quintet etc (1985); largest concert attendance on record (1990);most-covered and played song in 20th century (1999);fastest-selling single in history (2006).

Hey, it’s not The Beatles but pretty tidy to be going on with. And going on with it is just what Macca is all about.
