$1,000+ for a fully loaded iPhone
p2pnet.net news:- You queued for three days so you could cough up $500 or $600 for a heavily restricted iPhone.
And now you want, nay MUST HAVE, all the bits and pieces, ie:
- iPhone Bluetooth Headset - $130
- Apple USB Power Adapter - $30
- iPhone Dock - $50
- Apple Dock Connector to USB Cable - $20
- iPhone Stereo Headset - $30
- iPhone Bluetooth Travel Cable - $30
- AirPort Extreme Base Station - $180
- iPhone TTY Adapter - $20
Lesse, that’s another $490 so now, with the bells, whistles and taxes, your iPhone costs you more than $1,000.
Is it worth it? When we said “heavily restricted” we were referring to the fact buyers are compelled to sign up for an iTunes account, like it or not; and, they also have to sign a two-year contract for a AT&T network deal, not to mention the fact that also had to provide AT&T with very personal information, including Social Security numbers.
All of the above notwithstanding, Macolytes, who’ve already proved they’re ripe for the plucking by virtue of the fact they’re happily shelling out an exorbitant $1 and more for iTunes downloads, will be snapping up iPhones as fast as Apple can unload them.
“In New York, there was even an attempted iPhone mugging, when a passer-by made a lunge for one of the devices held by a reviewer for Newsweek magazine - one of four to have been handed out in the country, apparently - as he was being interviewed on live television,” says Times Online.
Meanwhile, everyone who works for Apple - thatr’s 20,000 people - will be given a free phone, says the story.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local politicians. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance. Don’t just complain. Do something!

The part about the iPhone mugging is invalid. The guy tried to steal the reporter’s microphone not the reviewers iPhone. As can be seen in the video.

It does come with the dock and stereo headphones, but I think apple shouldn’t be so cheap but thrown in the damn bluetooth headset with the package. It costs enough already, apple is reportedly making a fortune off these things considering the costs of the parts.
Oh yeah, the soldered in battery and smelly AT&T lockin is enough to turn anyone away.
Lets not forget you’ll never see these damn things in Canada because hell would freeze over before Rogers/Fido offer an Unlimited EDGE plan. As of now it costs a small fortune for a mere pathetic 25 megabytes of data.

You have to give them your Social Security number? Why? What kind of bullshit is that?

its like saying that a person who purchases a overpriced Mercedes-Benz has to get the Mercedes-Benz watch, pen and other products.

…it’s just Jon bitchin’ about Apple. He hates Apple and needs to get a life and quit complaining about everything Apple does. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything Apple does, so what?
AT&T requires a social? So what? Doesn’t just about any utility require that for credit report accountability?
The iPhone has accessories and it costs money. So what? Isn’t that a good thing to offer more variety?
Oh wait, it’s because the iPhone is so expensive it should include more things. Really? Some high tech phones are just as expensive, if not more. Do they include any of these things? If so, at least offer a comparison about why other high-tech phones are better
Anyway, my point is made –> Quit whining about Apple and look at some of the good once in a while. That’s my two cents.

aaaaawwwwww …
Apple fanboi feeewings hurt ?
” AT&T requires a social? So what? Doesn’t just about any utility require that for credit report accountability? ”
I have AT & T.
They don’t have MY social.
Why do they need one for an Apple owner ?
” The iPhone has accessories and it costs money. So what? Isn’t that a good thing to offer more variety?

Well good, you’ve answered you’re own question.
” Really? Some high tech phones are just as expensive, if not more. Do they include any of these things? ”
Yes.
” If so, at least offer a comparison about why other high-tech phones are better ”
No need.
So far the internet is still open, and those of us who still
want value for our buck ( and are not Apple sheep ) can
EASILY view comaparisons, using Google.
But the best reason other High-tech phones are better ?
They’re not Apple.
They manage to work without mandating an Itunes
subscription.
They’re not Apple.

Just another crappy iPod with a phone built in so you can call Apple Service for repairs.
I had an iPod and it was crap, got my self a Creative Zen.
The Creatives Sound is tens times better and I never had to get it fixed yet.
I’ve had it for over 3 years now and no problem, not even with the battery.
My iPod screwed up 4 times in 2 months(junk)
The iPhone will be the same, Junk.

You see, this is exactly the kind of attitude I’m talking about. There are two types of fanboyism for Apple - ones that love and ones that are against. At this site it’s anti-Apple fanboyism.
Both kinds of fanboyism are blind because the one for Apple fails to look at the weaknesses and the other (anti-Apple) just cares about being derogatory towards them because of their financial success.
My problem, as stated before is the negative attitude, and it’s not balanced.

They should all work for less, so that these items are affordable, after all, you can mass produce them. Is it my fault that they have expensive life styles, hell no!
February 28th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
YOU should work for less.
Go ahead. Do it…go on. You aren’t going to ? Even though an anonymous person online said to? What a rebel.
Apple is a great case study of how you can offer the same product, at a higher price, in an abundant market of close substitutes and still be successful enough for people to hate you.
