Sony to launch music service

p2pnet.net News:- Sony Corp is doing an Apple in the US.

That’s to say it’s launching its Connect online music service in the hope people will buy tracks online and download them to players they’ve already bought, preferably from Sony.

It says it’s established a subsidiary in Santa Monica, California, to handle the music service.

After test trials, Connect will officially launch in this spring and, “Upgraded software with more flexibility, features and tighter integration with Sony products will be released in the summer,” says Sony.

“Thereafter, Sony Connect plans to upgrade the service and the software continually for use with additional Sony products, as well as devices from other manufacturers.”

Connect service will feature the usual 500,000 tracks “from the major music companies and many independent labels” with singles going for the usual 99 cents, and albums for the usual $9.95.

The service will feature ATRAC3 audio compression.
