Paul Allen: reaching the stars
p2pnet.net News:- Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Paul Allen has proved money can indeed buy happiness.
He’s the man who’s about to send the first ‘civilian’ spaceship beyond earth’s boundaries, and the look on his face says it all.
With 62-year-old Scaled Composites test pilot Mike Melvill at the controls, SpaceShipOne soared 40 miles up after being dropped from its mother ship, the White Knight.
Now, “unless some of the other competitors have some tricks up their sleeve, the flight “solidifies the Scaled team’s lead in the race to win the X PRIZE, a $10 million award to the first private concern to launch passengers to an altitude of 100 kilometers (about 60 miles), recover them safely and then do it all over again within two weeks,” says AVweb here, adding:
“Although Scaled President Burt Rutan has never discussed the cost of his firm’s venture, it’s almost certainly a lot more than the prize money will cover.”

I think Paul Allen owns 25% of DreamWorks, plus Charter Cable. And I read he gives a ton of many to charity for sick kids, the arts and literacy stuff.
