BitTorrent Rulz on the Net

p2pnet.net News:- Bram Cohen’s BitTorrent accounts for 35% of all the traffic on the Internet - more than all other p2p applications combined.

So says a Reuters story.

It confirms the reality that music and movies represent only a tiny part of the potential offered by peer-to-peer applications, although the mainstream print and electronic press reps harp constantly on ‘illegal’ file sharing as THE use for p2p.

However, their pre-occupation with that, and only that, aspect means they’re still seeing only one pixel instead of the whole picture.

MP3.com founder Mike Robertson uses BitTorrent to distribute his Lindows (oops, Linspire) OS and BT has also become popular with politicans - particularly those in the US - who want to use the Net to promote themselves.

Be that as it may, for now, BT could become a target for copyright lawsuits, contends the article.

“I don’t think Hollywood is willing to let it slide, but whether they’re able to (stop it) is another matter,” Reuters has Cohen saying.

It also quotes MPAA director of worldwide anti-piracy operations as stating:

“It’s a very efficient delivery system for large files, and it’s being used and abused by a hell of a lot of people. We’re studying our options, as we do with all new technologies which are abused by people to engage in theft.”

Bit Torrent is great, I just wish there weren’t so many leechers…

Re: the pending litigation, as soon as they start pounding torreent users another evolution of ’sharing’ (not pirating) will spring up…they don’t seem to realize they are the little dutch boy with their thumb in the dike…go with the flow and adapt, or drown in the torrent ;)

    TT

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Then why is theres no goddamn seeds for my files!!! Especially the ones i originate? Jesus christ..

  3. Reader's Write Says:

If you originate the torrent, untill someone else has completed it from you, you shall be the only seed.

If you want better sites sign up with ones that record your ratio not one of the leech sites like supr’ , ‘ceff or pirate’
