With it comes firewall-to-firewall transfer technology, network connections up to four times faster than before, complete iTunes integration on both Mac and PC, and more.

Lime Wire started experimenting with firewall-to-firewall transfer seven months ago, cto Greg Bildson told p2pnet.

"We’ve known this was a theoretical possibility for a long time, but seeing it actually work was very satisfying. Writing a low level protocol on top of UDP was fun but a lot of work. We look forward to getting it in to use.

"There are many other nice features in 4.2 that users should appreciate. This version looks very slick. We’ve also addressed the initial connection problems some users have been experiencing due to failing GWebcaches. Our addition of UDP capabilities to Gnutella is paying off on startup as well as firewall-to-firewall transfers."

New features include:
