Google’s 2004 year-end Zeitgeist report, based on billions of user searches, shows some interesting results.
Given the amount of attention George W. Bush’s election campaign generated, it’s not surprising that his name is Number One on the Top Public Figures US news list. But Janet Jackson’s Boob Tube exposure got her to the #2 position with John Kerry immediately behind. (ahem)
The Most Popular Tech Stuff list ran like this:
- wallpaper
- Kazaa
- mp3
- SpyBot (way to go, Patrick ; )
- Linux
And the Most Popular Consumer Electronics Froogle queries showed iPod as Number One, followed, in descending order, by digital camera, mp3, xBox, PlayStation 2, portable dvd player, plasma tv, digital camcorder, pda and —— electric scooter.
Huh?
Anyway, tablet pc was #1 for the Froogle Most Popular Computer Goods with computer, laptop, headphones, computer speakers, notebook computer, gps, webcam, wireless speakers and flat panel monitor in descending order.
The Most Popular (MP) Queries centred on Britney you-know-who, the Most Popular man was Orlando Bloom and the Most Popular woman was Britney you-know-who.
Interestingly, the top spots in both the Most Popular Queries and ‘Woman’ lists were - Britney you-know-who, followed by Paris Hilton, 2, Christina Aguilera, 3, and – Pamela Anderson, 4.
And the Most Popular Female Celebrities image search queries were. Yep. Britney you-know-who and the usual suspects in the number 2, 3 and 4 positions.
The list has separate entries for other countries around the world and George W. features only in Italy where he was the 5th Most Popular news query.

if ‘kazaa’ was more searched than ‘mp3′ then why isn’t kazaa in the top ten?
