MPAA, China division

p2pnet.net New:- The formation of a Chinese version of the MPAA is on the way.

The world’s most populous country has teamed up with the Gang of Seven movie studio cartel to guarantee the latter’s profits continue to burgeon and now, “China film authorities and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) have signed a memorandum on the crackdown on pirated US home video products for the protection of copyrights of Hollywood movies,” says China’s state news agency, Xinhua.

The MPA is owned by Walt Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Sony, who also own the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).

“China’s Ministry of Culture(MOC) and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) inked the document with the MPA on Wednesday following the bilateral consensus on protecting intellectual property rights reached during US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez’s visit to China early this week,” states Xinhua.

MPAA mouthpiece Dan Glickman recently expressed personal disappointment that his employers, the Gang of Seven, didn’t get everything they wanted out of the talks. But, they did reflect, “modest progress in our ongoing efforts to improve enforcement of intellectual property rights in China,” he said.

Now, “China and the United States have common understandings, interests and objectives in eliminating piracy, Zhang Pimin, deputy director of the SARFT, said in an interview with Xinhua here.

“According to the memo, the anti-piracy departments in China will form action plans targeted at pirated US home video products. The MPA will submit the release date and titles of US movies scheduled to be screened in China by its member companies to the MOC and SARFT every three months, making it possible for the Chinese side to identify the pirated movie products.”

“The Chinese government will soon approve the establishment of an association by which the copyrights of all movies, Chinese or American, screened in China can be protected, which means copyrights of all movies will be protected more efficiently,” Zhang said.

One Response to “MPAA, China division”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

This is the beginning of the end. For those of you who are ignorant, this is the preferred methodology of the MPAA / RIAA to get a “legal” foot hold into a foreign country. Once they have the foot hold, they will continue to press harder and harder, and further wedge their smelly foot up the asses of every man, women, child, and babies. We have seen it in America, and recently in Europe with the multitude of simultaneous “lawsuits” that are simply “settled” because REALISTICLY NO ONE can defeat their myriad of lawyers — whether or not your case is strong. Think about it folks. Modern Racketeering (which is ILLEGAL) at it’s finest. Nice way to get $3000 to $10,000 grand from grannies and little school girls!

We all agree that the RIAA / MPAA tactics amount at best to forceful coersion and intimidation tactics, and racketeering. At worst, it simply destroys families. You may argue the law is the law, and ‘file sharing’ IS ’stealing’. Although this argument can easily be debunked, I want to divert your attention to ANOTHER LAW — PRICE FIXING IS ILLEGAL! That’s right boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen — if the MPAA wants to use the law, then we as citizens must also use the law for the betterment of humankind.
