MPAA wants sites closed

p2p news / p2pnet:- The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) is demanding that downloadshield.com; full-movie-downloads.com; mp3eternity.com; moviesadvance.com; thedownloadplace.com and easydownloadcenter.com be shut down.

“The design of the Web pages make them appear to be legitimate Hollywood studio sites by using copyrighted images from movies,” it says, according to United Press International.

“Consumers are then charged to illegally download pirated movies.”

UPI has the MPAA saying the sites want from $20 for a three-month trial to $40 for lifetime membership to download an unlimited number of movies on-line from peer-to-peer networks.

  • full-movie-downloads.com was down at 4:22 am Pacific
  • thedownloadplace.com was down at 4:23 am Pacific
  • easydownloadcenter.com was down at 4:23 am Pacific
  • downloadshield.com goes to a supposed anti-virus, anti-spyware and adware site
  • mp3eternity.com seems to be mainly an mp3 download site
  • moviesadvance.com promises, “Once you sign up to become a member, you will have access to software that will allow you to download movies, trailers, bloopers, soundtrack, wallpapers, and other video clips.”

Finally they do something right - I’d just wish they’d shut down www.musicdownloadcentral.com - many many people have fallen for that

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Yep, there’re so many scam-sites like that, people just end up looking stupid to download some BT client or some binary Usenet leecher and having paid for something free :D

But I’m sure the MPAA just want the domain names so they can turn ‘em either in trap-sites or to turn ‘em into VOD sites (VOD suxxx!!!)

  3. Reader's Write Says:

I think this is really a violation of constitutional rights, even if you hate the sites and think they are scams. Look at internetmovies.com. How many articles have been done about that site? and the only differance is he fought back.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Well, at least they’re shutting down sites that deserve it. NOBODY should EVER have to pay for online content. If the sites were not making money out of posting links, I’d be outraged.
