The Washington Post wants YOU

p2p news / p2pnet: The Washington Post wants you to come up with web innovations it’s calling Remixes.

And it wants you to both work for free, and give up all rights to anything you develop : )

“Terms of Use,” says the intro, going on:

We are pleased to announce washingtonpost.com’s Post Remix. With Post Remix, you may use washingtonpost.com RSS feeds to experiment with different applications using washingtonpost.com content. Here are the conditions for participating in Post Remix:

* Your efforts must be for personal, and not for commercial, use. You may not sell applications that use or incorporate washingtonpost.com content.
* You recognize that Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive retains all intellectual property rights in all washingtonpost.com content and you that acquire no such rights by participating in Post Remix.
* Washingtonpost.com may incorporate your ideas into future projects it develops.

With that, we invite you to work with us on this exciting project. We look forward to hearing from you.

It’s signed by executive editor Jim Brady.

Washingtonpost.com’s Post Remix site is, “affectionately known as mashingtonpost.com,” it says. The plan is to “spotlight the work of outside Web developers who’ve made cool and interesting projects (’mashups’) using Post content; and, “provide information about washingtonpost.com’s various data offerings (APIs and RSS feeds)”.

By way of examples:

Frank Wiles made News Cloud, which is a tag cloud of Post stories that lets you browse stories by keyword.

Jacob Kaplan-Moss made Ripped from the Headlines!, a daily news quiz that’s created automatically from our headline feeds.

Adam DuVander made a world map interface to Post stories, plus a thumbnail quiz of Arts & Entertainment stories.

Bryan Fordham made washingtonpost.com search results via RSS, which provides RSS feeds for search terms on our site.

“If you’ve created something using washingtonpost.com content, or if you have an idea for somebody else to implement, let us know, and we’ll include your project or idea here,” says the site.

“Contact us by e-mailing Adrian Holovaty at adrian.holovaty (at) wpni.com.”

(Thanks, J)

they want you to do all the creative work with no pay, no rights, and no comercial use but…. they can take your work and use it to make as much money as they want…. Hmmmmm sounds like they’re getting into the recording business. I guess after doing all those articles about the industry they see a gold mine here.
