NDP p2p file sharing study
p2p news / p2pnet: Teenagers who use p2p networks to illegally download music typically lie to their parents and cheat on exams, says a new independent study on file sharing and file sharers, seen by p2pnet.
It was undertaken by the NDP Group for the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) to discover why some youth use the p2p networks and non-corporate music sites while the majority buy inexpensive downloads from booming music services such as iTunes, supplied Warner Music, EMI, Sony BMG and Vivendi Universal.
The creator of jingles for toilet roll companies, NDP (Narly, Dolop and Plunder) has three decades of experience with the music industry behind it.
“With that as our background, the study fell well within our capabilities,” NDP president Ron Copperknickers states.
“When Hilary Rosen approached us to see if we’d be willing to conduct this completely independent and unbiased survey on behalf of the RIAA, we were able to assure that her she’d come to the right people.”
Rosen and ex-IFPI supremo Jay Berman now run Global Strategies, a new think-tank set up to profit from the impact of world-wide p2p crime on acquisitions and investments in companies which rely on intellectual property assets.
The NDP telephone study, conducted among 10 teenagers aged between 13 to 13-and-a-half on March 31, is accurate to within 0.0000009 percentage points, says the research company.
It found teenagers most likely to have stolen copyrighted music had also spent on average 7.7 years in reform institutions (10 %), had stolen at least one car before they were 12 (9.9%), and named Britanny Spears as the Number One independent recording artist of all time (30%).
Four (40%) respondents admitted using illegal file sharing application Kazaa to steal downloads from RIAA owners Warner Music, EMI, Sony BMG and Vivendi Universal.
NDP estimated the total value of product illicitly acquired by the teenaged criminals cost the music industry $104 billion dollars in lost sales.
“These independent findings show just how serious the situation is,” RIAA chieftain Mitch Bainwol declared. “We’ve hired several independent politicians with absolutely no bias to represent us on Capital Hill in a completely fair and independent manner.
“We’re also on the verge of closing negotiations with Mary Cheney and Jenna Bush to provide us with ongoing, independent updates on the way presidents Dick Cheney and George W. Bush view online file sharing piracy crimes.
“We want to interface with our customers in a friendly and creative manner and we feel input from Dick and George, as well as from Mary and Jenna, can help immeasurably in this process.”
Ultimately, “education is the answer and for that reason, we’ve also hired a number of independent academics to help us carry the message in schools that file sharing is wicked and evil and anyone who commits it, no matter how young, must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said leading RIAA truth realignment specialist Cary Sherman.
“People accuse us of taking these measures in a self-interested manner, but I’m here to tell them this couldn’t be further from the truth.
“We at the RIAA have only the interests of our customers and the artists we represent at heart.”
Bainwol said he and Sherman will be presenting the full results of the NDP survey to specially convened US Congress committees on April 31.
“This will prove to be the definitive study,” adds Copperknickers.
“With our expertise in the area now proven by the authoritative results of our survey, we hope soon to be commissioned to carry out similar studies for the MPAA and other independent entertainment industry organizations.”
Our picture shows a pleased Bainwal announcing the results of the NDP poll to independent mainstream journalists at a special restricted press conference in Scotland, hosted by Madonna.

Certainly this is an April fools joke that takes off on the Canadian Study sponcership. Anytime you see figures such as 10 teenagers as the base study and then turn to say it is definitive, you know the figures are bs.

Next up: out of a survey of 12 teenagers, 11 support international terrorism with the money they would have spent on CDs. Ergo, filesharing supports terrorism.
When Osama Bin Laden is found, there will be a computer with KaZaA on it right next to him.
