Employees still file-swap at work

p2pnet.net News:- The RIAA claims claims its sue ‘em all intimidation campaign against file swappers is working.

But a new report on p2p file sharing says it isn’t.

In fact, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) may actually be driving people to use company systems instead of home computers to do their file sharing, says a new study.

“The enterprise environment appears to be a safe-haven for the use of illegal peer-to-peer file sharing,” says Steve Mullaney, vp of marketing for Blue Coat Systemns, which says its business is to help organizations to keep “good” employees from doing “bad” things online..

And only 40% of employees are concerned that their file sharing activities could mean the company they work for ends up on the RIAA’s victim list.

“Employees are not sufficiently worried about their companies getting sued by organizations such as the RIAA or MPAA,” says Mullaney.

A survey of nearly 300 respondents conducted by Blue Coat in late 2003 and early 2004 suggests 42% of people continue to use P2P file sharing applications such as Kazaa, Morpheus, BearShare, LimeWire, and clients using Gnutella or FastTrack networking technologies, says Blue Coat.

“Among those using P2P file sharing, 39% of users are conducting file sharing on company networks,” it states. “Additionally, almost half of all respondents did not believe their company had an Internet use policy.”

I don’t think big corps with money to spend to defend themselves against these lawsuits have alot to worry about.

OTOH, 12 year olds living in public housing should be quaking in their boots.

Wow who would have thought. I think that P2P is okay if you just download songs that are on the radio. It is also true that you can tape TV shows so I see no problem in downloading them.
