Swedish police site hacked

p2p news / p2pnet: Hackers have attacked the web site of the Swedish police, forcing it offline.

The hack follows the Hollywood-initiated attack on ThePirateBay.org but, “It is not clear whether the attack is linked to the police action against The Pirate Bay,” says the BBC, going on:

“On Wednesday, officers raided 10 locations across the country, confiscating the computers and detaining three men suspected of violating copyright laws. The three have since been released, but a spokesman said they could still face charges.”

TPB, “became a dominant player in tracking BitTorrent files when another search index, SuprNova.org, met its demise in late 2004,” says the story, adding, “SuprNova.org, shut down after a relentless campaign by the entertainment industry to close its operations.”

Yesterday, TPB’s operators said they although the site was down, it wouldn’t stay that way for long.

And on the three who were arrested, “They are being charged with copyright infringement,” TPB spokesperson darknite told zeiTspuk.

“This could change, though,” darknite stated.

“We suspect that AntiPiratByrĂ„n mislead the police, accusing ThePirateBay actually offering Warez on the servers.”

Meanwhile, “The MPAA et al. claim to be financially hurt by the actions of sites like these, but as yet have not produced any (and I really do mean any) evidence of this,” B. Jones points out on N2N News, continuing:

“Studies, yes. Hypothesis, yes. Evidence, no. An estimation based on assumptions doesn’t have any factual relevance. If I made an assumption about how many more years I’ll live, based on my lifestyle, general health, etc. It might be a very nice estimate, very pretty, comforting and so on. If, however, I go and get hit by a truck tomorrow, or get the Bird Flu, it won’t matter how accurate the assertions are that made up the lifespan estimation, because in the end, the facts (how much longer I actually did live) didn’t bear it out. That is something the media has yet to understand, or distinguish. For Gameswitch, no estimation is needed. Their business is shut down. They are losing money and who’s the people behind it?

“Whoever ordered this raid, and whoever was the on-scene commander, is probably going to be out on their backside after this fiasco. If you’re going to do a job, don’t do one that’s got world-wide interest, and then mess it up so grievously. Not if you want any sort of public respect left. This is right up their with the Michael Brown/FEMA emails from Katrina.”

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. “The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in,” says The Globe & Mail. Let me think… The Pirate Bay gets taken offline.. the next day, the Swedish Police website SUDDENLY gets a DoS attack…

Are they linked..? Is it really that hard to see that maybe, just maybe.. YES!

Before anyone says, I know they can’t report it as being linked until ‘official’ confirmation comes through from god knows who, probably some guy who thinks he’s important in one way or another, but I mean, come on.. common sense peeps…

One more thing for the BBC to do, please, FFS, LEARN the ins and outs of fucking bittorrent before you start reporting on it. So many times so recently I’ve read reports about bittorrent on the BBC, and so many times they just don’t quite grasp that it’s nothing like Kazaa or Limewire or anything running on the Gnutella network..

    Gah! >.<
