Sony powered Dell box explodes
2pnet.net News:- China’s Lenovo can now be added to the steadily growing list of major companies whose laptops could become lethal weapons, thanks to the fact they use Sony lithium-ion batteries.
The company is investigating a ThinkPad laptop computer that caught fire over the weekend at Los Angeles International Airport and confirmed it was powered by Sony batteries, says MarketWatch.
Meanwhile, a Yahoo employee’s laptop burst into flames at their Mission College campus down in Silicon Valley, “causing hundreds of Yahoo employees to be evacuated from an 8-story building,” says Engadget, going on:
“The culprit: you guessed it, a Dell machine whose faulty cell that should have been replaced (don’t they have corporate memos at those big companies?) instead caught fire. From what we now know it doesn’t seem like anyone was hurt, but let this be a lesson, people: you have the means, now take Dell up on the freaking recall before something disastrous happens.”
In an update, “So it looks like Yahoo uses HP and Mac laptops - not Dells - making it very likely this was someone’s personal machine that they brought to work,” says the story, adding:
“Wrong day to bring your laptop to the office, man.”
Apple and Dell were the first firms named in the Sony battery scandal, both firms recalling millions of the Sony batteries installed in their computers.
To add to Sony’s troubles, Britain’s Virgin, Australia’s Quantas and Korea’s Korea Air say they’ll only allow Apple or Dell laptops if the batteries have been removed.

So not only will you have to buy new batteries for your hybrid car every 3 to 5 years whether you drive it or not, but you’ll also have to pray that Sony DIDN’T supply the batteries for it?
Yay, like we don’t already have enough to worry about on the road without our cars spontaneously combusting for no reason!
