Wal-Mart leaks Zune price
2pnet.net News:- Microsoft’s DRM-loaded Wi-Fi Zune will come in at $284.
At least, that’s what Wal-Mart said in an advertisement, later telling ABC News that the price “was incorrectly and inadvertently listed,” according to Ars Technica.
But, “If the Wal-Mart listing was in the right neighborhood, Microsoft will need to convince consumers that the larger screen, WiFi, sharing capability, and FM transmitter are worth the extra money,” says the story.
“If Zune is going to retail at or near the 30GB iPod’s level, then Microsoft may be forced to swallow even smaller margins on the player, hopefully in exchange for better sales figures.”
Users, meanwhile, will have to swallow suicidal downloads.
Microsoft DRM means’shared’ Zune tracks self-destruct after three plays, or after they’ve been around for three days.
That’s because, “Built in to every Zune device is a wireless music sharing system,” says the BBC. “The short range data swapping system lets Zune owners beam tracks, playlists and images to other Zune players nearby.”
However, “Tracks shared in this way can be listened to three times or kept for three days before they disappear.”
